Everything You Need to Know About tlb Summer Camp!

We are gearing up and CAN’T WAIT to spend a super fun summer with your children! We have amazing activities planned and in effort to make things easier for you, here is an email outlining everything that you need to know about tlb Summer Camp! Please let us know if you have any questions and thanks in advance for following these guidelines.

WHAT TO PACK FOR CAMP EACH DAY

Please provide all your child’s belongings in a BACKPACK that your child can manage and carry independently.
  • Label ALL belongings with your child’s name (backpacks, lunch bags, towels, sunscreen, shoes, clothes, etc.)
  • Refrain from sending stuffed animals and toys from home.
  • All campers must wear closed-toe, rubber-soled water shoes for outside water play in the park and at the sprinkler park. If they don’t wear them, pack them!
  • Send a plastic bag (for wet suit), underwear, clothes, and a towel.
  • Send an extra pair of weather-appropriate clothes and underwear in a labeled ziplock bag.
  • FOOD
    • Labeled lunch box including snack, lunch and a FILLED, labeled water bottle. Do not pack lunches in a plastic bag.
      • Do not send juice or milk boxes, glass containers or glass water bottles.
    • If you prefer for your child to have a warm lunch, please heat it in the morning and send it in a thermos.
    • If your child stays for after care, send an extra snack and water bottle.
    • For the safety of all our campers, make sure that ALL snacks and lunch ingredients are 100% NUT FREE.
  • 2.5-4Y CAMP ONLY
    • Pack a crib-sized sheet, blanket and toddler pillow OR a nap mat/sleeping bag. Label everything with your child’s name.
      • These items will stay at camp and be sent home on Friday for laundering.
    • If your child is potty-training, please send 1 pack of pull-ups or diapers, 1 pack of wipes and cream, if necessary. Label all with your child’s name.
      • These items will stay at camp.

DRESSING YOUR CHILD FOR CAMP

  • Your child needs to wear closed-toe, rubber-soled shoes EVERY DAY. No flip-flops or sandals.
  • Don’t forget to apply sunscreen and bug spray to your child EVERY MORNING before they come to camp. We spend a lot of time outdoors.
  • WATER PLAY
    • All campers should come to camp WEARING their bathing suits.
      • 2.5-4y Campers should come wearing their suits on MONDAYS and WEDNESDAYS only!

ARRIVAL & DISMISSAL

  • Camp hours are 9am to 3pm.
    • Early care (8am) and after care (3-6pm) is available for a fee. Please contact Ms. Kristi for more details.
    • If you are going to be absent or late, please email us or call 201.984.0555 and leave a message.
  • Parents/caregivers MUST sign their campers in and out on the daily attendance log.
  • ARRIVAL
    • We will open our doors at 9am. If you arrive a few minutes early, please wait at the bottom of the steps. Thank you!
    • Campers will be dropped off and say good-bye to their caregivers in our lobby.
    • If you arrive late and your camper’s group is outdoors, you will need to drop off their belongings, sign them in and then drop them off at the park.
  • DISMISSAL
    • 3pm dismissal will be outside. You can wait for your camper at the bottom of the stairs. If it is raining, pick up will be in the lobby.
  • AFTER CARE
    • If your camper stays for after care, you can pick up in the lobby. On nice days we will be outside until 4:15pm. You can come to the lobby, grab your child’s belongings and pick them up at the park.
    • If something comes up and you need after care for your child, please let their Head Counselor know at drop off.
  • We DO NOT have parking inside for strollers, scooters, bikes, etc. They may be locked outside, however, tlb is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Thanks for understanding!

EARLY DISMISSAL

If you need to pick up your child prior to their normal departure time, please let your Head Counselor know at drop off or call the office by 12pm.

COMMUNICATION

ITEMS TO BE LEFT AT CAMP

Please label all items!
  • A sweat shirt or lightweight jacket
  • A baseball cap or visor
  • A bottle of sunscreen (MUST be labeled)
  • Closed-toe, rubber-soled water shoes
  • Extra change of clothes in a labeled ziplock bag (underwear, socks, t-shirt, shorts, bathing suit)

RAINY DAYS

Rainy days can be a lot of fun! Campers may be outdoors during inclement weather, so if the forecast indicates the possibility of rain, please send your child with a hooded, waterproof jacket.

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

Birthdays are a special time and we love to celebrate them with our campers! For campers who have birthdays during the camp session, you are welcome to send in a small treat (mini-cupcakes, mini-muffins, small cookies, cut fruit, etc.) to share with their friends. Talk to your Head Counselor about when you would like to send a treat and we can let you know how may campers are in your child’s group. Thank you!

COMMUNITY

Camp is a place for fun, friends, growth and memories. It is NOT a place for negativity.
Any behavior that detracts from the positive experience your fellow campers are having may lead to consequences including dismissal from camp. We have a ZERO tolerance policy for use or possession of tobacco, alcohol, drugs or weapons. This will result in immediate dismissal from camp.

SICK POLICY

If your camper is not feeling well in the morning (has a fever of 100 degrees F or higher, vomiting, diarrhea, yellow mucus, etc.) in fairness to other campers, PLEASE keep them home. It is better to come to camp late because they are feeling better than have to go home because their symptoms do not improve. Before camp starts please make sure to have an action plan in place in the event your child becomes illl at camp and needs to be picked up early. If this happens and they need to leave camp due to illness, we will keep them as comfortable as possible in the wellness center until you arrive. For the well being of our healthy campers, ill campers do need to be picked up under the following circumstances:
  • If your camper develops a fever of 100 degrees F or higher
  • If your camper vomits at camp
  • General condition of your camper at the discretion of the Health Director is such that they are unable to return to their normal camp activities
We realize that our campers don’t want to miss a day of camp, however, we want to minimize the possibility of getting our fellow campers ill and in turn causing them to miss camp. Campers MUST be fever free (below 100 degrees F, without fever reducing medication) for 24 hours before returning to camp. This will help prevent the further spread of illness.

LICE

Anyone can get head lice—mainly through direct head-to-head contact, but also from sharing hats, brushes and other personal items. Head lice are an issue in many communities and do not reflect poor hygiene (lice actually love a clean head of hair!) or socio-economic status. Please do your part to prevent the spread of this communicable condition by checking your child(ren) regularly. It is much easier to treat if caught early.
If you should discover your child has head lice, please notify us immediately and keep your camper home until they have been treated and DO NOT have live lice. Please contact a trusted medical provider if you need recommendation on how to best treat it. This is the best way to protect your family and community.

TICKS

Ticks are part of our natural world and have become more prevalent in Jersey City parks and outdoor areas already this summer. We know that children and adults can be exposed to ticks anywhere in nature, whether it is a backyard, a park, or a remote hiking trail. It is our intention to raise awareness about how to prevent tick related illnesses in general and not to cause you alarm.
Bug spray will keep ticks away so please add bug spray to your morning routine. The best way to prevent any illness caused by a tick is to perform a quick and easy body check during evening bath or bedtime. Pay close attention to waist lines, groin, under arms, behind knees, ears and around the hair line. A tick bite in itself does not cause infection. In order to transmit a disease, a tick would need to be attached for at least 24 hours, which is why daily tick checks are so effective.
